What is Critical STEPS
Critical STEPS Course is a novel concept wherein we design courses covering the key aspects required for managing critically ill patients and catering to the needs of the attendees.
The Critical STEPS idea has been developed by a number of the convenors from three successfully run courses –
- ABC of Critical Skills Workshop (last 6 years, Convened by Dr Yogesh Apte)
- ICE Course (the Box Hill ICM course) (last 10 years, Convened by Dr Max Moser)
- RAPID (Responding Appropriately to Patients In Deterioration) Course
(Peninsula Health last 2 years, Convened by Dr Ashwin Subramaniam)
To deliver exemplary courses using hands-on procedural skills and simulation targeted at doctors-in-training, to help them develop skills and abilities in their management of the critically ill patient.
What does the program offer?
The courses consist of interactive discussions and practical skills stations delivered by expert Faculty. This is followed by multiple immersive high-fidelity simulated scenarios coupled with structured debriefing with a positive intent from experts. The courses also have a very strong focus on team leadership and crisis resource management.
A certificate will be presented on completion of each course.
Who will benefit the most?
These hands-on courses are targeted at junior doctors interested in a career in critical care areas such as Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care Medicine, Anaesthesia, Peri-Operative and Acute Medicine.
It is also ideal for any interns, junior and senior Doctors-in-Training as well as senior clinicians who want to refresh their skills in the managing critically ill patients.
